The Levoit Vital 200S-P is the purifier we would buy for a living room with a shedding dog or cat. Its AHAM Verifide smoke CADR is 250 cfm, the highest of Levoit's mid-priced models, for a 388 sq ft room. A second, U-shaped air inlet and a Pet Mode are designed to catch fur before it mats the main filter, and the flat-backed body sits against a wall rather than in the middle of the floor.
The trade-offs: its sensor is infrared, which is less precise than the laser sensor in the Core 400S-P, and its replacement filters cost $59.99. For a bedroom without pets, a smaller unit does the job for less.
What the Vital 200S-P is
The Vital line is Levoit's rectangular tower family. Air enters through the front grille and an extra U-shaped inlet that Levoit says helps capture airborne pet fur and prevents clogs, passes a washable pre-filter, a HEPA-type main filter and activated carbon, and leaves through the top. Levoit rates the filter as trapping particles as small as 0.3 microns.
It connects to Levoit's VeSync app and voice assistants. The Amazon listing model is LAP-V201S-WUS; the -P suffix marks the current filter family.
Levoit Vital 200S AHAM figures and room size
The AHAM Verifide directory lists the Vital 200S-P at 250 cfm for smoke, 254 for dust and 289 for pollen, with a suggested room size of 388 sq ft. AHAM puts its annual energy use at 314 kWh, with an integrated energy factor of 4.7. The pollen figure is the highest of the three, which matters for the large particles that pet dander and pollen are made of.
| Room | Floor area | Air changes an hour |
|---|---|---|
| Bedroom, 14 x 16 ft | 224 sq ft | 8.4 |
| Living room, 16 x 20 ft | 320 sq ft | 5.9 |
| AHAM room size | 388 sq ft | 4.8 |
| Open plan, 20 x 25 ft | 500 sq ft | 3.8 |
Levoit's "up to 1,875 sq ft" assumes one air change an hour. For pets and allergies, plan on the AHAM room size. The sizing calculator does the sum for your room.
Pet Mode and the second inlet
Levoit describes Pet Mode as alternating between high and low fan speeds to catch more hair and dander while saving energy. In practice that means more air through the filter during the hours you choose, which is the only thing that removes airborne dander. The side inlet matters for a simpler reason: fur that clogs the pre-filter cuts airflow, so keeping it off the main filter face keeps the CADR closer to its rating between cleanings. Vacuum the pre-filter weekly in a shedding season.
No purifier removes hair that has already settled on floors and furniture; that is still a vacuum's job. Our best air purifiers for pets guide covers what a purifier can and cannot do for pet allergies.
Sensor, noise and power
Levoit's product page says the Vital 200S-P uses an infrared sensor to scan the air and drive Auto Mode. Infrared sensors detect particles but cannot size or count them the way a laser sensor does, so Auto Mode responds well to obvious events (cooking, dust from cleaning) and less precisely to slow changes. Levoit lists a noise range of 23 to 54 dB and a rated power of 50 W.
Filters and cost
The standard replacement filter combines the HEPA-type and carbon layers; Levoit lists its Vital 200S-P carbon replacement filters at $59.99. Levoit sells Pet Allergy and Toxin Absorber versions as well. As with the Core models, the purifier tracks filter life from run time. One filter a year costs $59.99; in a home with pets running it daily, plan for two.
What the Vital 200S-P costs to run for three years
AHAM's directory estimates the Vital 200S-P uses 314 kWh a year. At 17.2 cents per kWh, EIA's 2025 average US residential price, that is about $54 a year, a little more than the Core 400S-P's $41 because it moves more air and is slightly less efficient (integrated energy factor 4.7 against 5.8).
| Item | One filter a year | Two filters a year |
|---|---|---|
| Purifier (Levoit list price) | $189.99 | $189.99 |
| Filters, 3 years | $179.97 | $359.94 |
| Electricity, 3 years | $162 | $162 |
| Total | $532 | $712 |
In a pet household, the second column is the realistic one: fur and dander load the pre-filter and the main filter faster than ordinary dust. Two habits stretch filter life. Vacuum the pre-filter every week or two in shedding season, and run the purifier on a moderate speed all day rather than on high for short bursts, which keeps the room cleaner for the same filter wear.
Where to put it
The Vital 200S-P draws air in from the front and the U-shaped inlet and blows it out of the top, so it can sit closer to a wall than a cylinder that breathes all the way round. Keep the front and top clear of curtains and furniture, and put it where the pets spend their time, not in a hallway. Our placement guide covers distances and rooms in more detail.

Who should buy the Levoit Vital 200S-P
- Buy it for a living room up to about 390 sq ft with a dog or cat.
- Buy it if you want the purifier against a wall; the flat back and front intake suit that better than a cylinder.
- Skip it if you want the most accurate auto mode; the Core 400S-P's laser sensor is better.
- Skip it for pet odor above all; the pet odor guide covers units with heavier carbon.
- Skip it for a small bedroom; the Core 300-P covers 220 sq ft for half the price.
Frequently asked questions
What size room does the Levoit Vital 200S cover?
AHAM Verifide lists it for 388 sq ft, where its 250 cfm smoke CADR gives about 4.8 air changes an hour. Levoit's figure of about 1,875 sq ft assumes one air change an hour.
What does Pet Mode do on the Levoit Vital 200S?
Levoit says Pet Mode alternates between high and low fan speeds to capture more pet hair and dander while saving energy. More airflow through the filter is what removes airborne dander.
Is the Vital 200S or the Core 400S better?
The Vital 200S-P has slightly more certified airflow (250 vs 231 to 234 cfm smoke CADR), a second inlet and Pet Mode. The Core 400S-P has a more precise laser sensor and draws less power. Pick the Vital for pets and the Core for auto mode.
How much does a Levoit Vital 200S filter cost?
Levoit lists its Vital 200S-P carbon replacement filters at $59.99, with pet and toxin versions available. The purifier tracks filter life from run time.
Does the Vital 200S-P have a laser sensor?
No. Levoit's page describes an infrared sensor that scans the air for pollutants and drives Auto Mode. Laser sensors, used in the Core 400S-P, measure particle levels more precisely.
Is the Levoit Vital 200S loud?
Levoit lists 23 to 54 dB. The low end is quiet enough for sleep; the top speed is a clear rush of air that most people reserve for when they are out of the room.
