The Rabbit Air MinusA2 (SPA-780N) solves a problem no tower can: it is about 7 inches deep and hangs on a wall, so it takes no floor space. It is quiet, with a low setting of 25.6 dBA by Rabbit Air's figures, and its fourth filter stage is swappable, pet allergy, odor, toxin or germ defense, so you can tune it to your home.
Its airflow is modest for the price. Rabbit Air states a smoke CADR of 180 cfm, and Rabbit Air is not in the AHAM Verifide directory. At the five air changes an hour we recommend for allergies, 180 cfm suits a room of about 280 sq ft with 8 ft ceilings: a large bedroom or a small living room. If floor space and looks are not the deciding factors, AHAM-listed machines like the Levoit Core 400S-P move more air for far less.
Rabbit Air MinusA2 CADR and room size
Rabbit Air's product page lists CADRs of 200 for pollen, 193 for dust and 180 for smoke, and coverage of 815 sq ft at two air changes an hour or 408 sq ft at four. Those coverage figures do not follow from the smoke CADR with 8 ft ceilings: 180 cfm gives four air changes an hour in about 340 sq ft, not 408, and 408 sq ft at four air changes would need about 218 cfm. Rabbit Air may be using the pollen figure or a lower ceiling. We size it from the smoke CADR.
| Room | Floor area | Air changes an hour |
|---|---|---|
| Bedroom, 12 x 14 ft | 168 sq ft | 8.0 |
| Main bedroom, 14 x 17 ft | 238 sq ft | 5.7 |
| Large bedroom, 15 x 19 ft | 285 sq ft | 4.7 |
| Living room, 16 x 22 ft | 352 sq ft | 3.8 |
Wall mounting and design
The MinusA2 measures about 20 by 21.4 inches and 7 inches deep and weighs 19.4 lb, according to Rabbit Air. It can stand on the floor or mount on a wall, which suits nurseries, small apartments and bedrooms where a tower would sit in the way. Rabbit Air sells interchangeable front panels with artwork, which is unusual and part of the appeal.
The filter stack
Air passes a washable pre-filter, a medium filter, a HEPA filter and a fourth customized filter you choose: Rabbit Air offers versions for pet allergies, odors, toxins and germs. Rabbit Air says the filter kit lasts up to 12 months running 24 hours a day, or up to two years at 12 hours a day, and puts the cost at $47.50 a year at 12 hours a day or $95 at 24 hours. That is reasonable for a premium machine and well below the Molekule Air Pro's roughly $350.
Noise, power and the ionizer
Rabbit Air lists 25.6 to 51.3 dBA and 6 to 61 W for the SPA-780N, quiet and efficient figures. The negative ion generator is optional, and Rabbit Air describes the MinusA2 as certified zero ozone; we did not find Rabbit Air on the parts of California's certified air cleaner list we read, so check the label or Rabbit Air's certification page if California certification matters to you. You can leave the ionizer off and lose nothing in filtration. Our ionizer guide explains why some people do.
