MA-40-V4.0 and V3.0 listed as mechanical air cleaners

The Medify MA-40 is an AHAM-listed purifier for living rooms and large bedrooms: the current v4.0 is rated at 245 cfm of smoke CADR for a 380 square foot room, in line with the Winix 5510 and Levoit Vital 200S-P. Medify adds a lifetime warranty if you register the unit and an H13 HEPA filter.

Two things count against it. Medify says to replace the filter every 3,000 hours, about four months of continuous use, so at $59.99 a filter the yearly cost runs to about $180 for a unit running around the clock. And its lowest speed is about 40 dBA by Medify's figures, noticeably louder than the 23 to 24 dB low settings Levoit and Winix quote.

Medify MA-40 AHAM figures: which version you get

The AHAM Verifide directory lists three MA-40 generations:

AHAM Verifide entries, read November 3, 2026.

MA-40 v4.0245 / 257 / 263 cfm380 sq ft
MA-40 V3.0241 / 287 / 332 cfm374 sq ft
MA-40 (original)239 / 231 / 240 cfm370 sq ft

The smoke figure, the one that matters most, barely changes between versions, so any MA-40 you buy new performs about the same on fine particles. Medify also quotes its CADR as 406 cubic meters an hour, which is 239 cfm. California's Air Resources Board lists the MA-40-V4.0 and MA-40-V3.0 as mechanical air cleaners; the MA-40UV variant, which adds a UV lamp, is listed as electronic.

The filter interval is the real cost

Medify says its filters should be replaced after 3,000 hours, about four months of continuous use; other Medify pages say four to five months. The MA-40 filter set is $59.99 on Medify's store, with a subscription that ships every 120 days. Running around the clock, that is three filters a year.

Three-year running cost at Medify's prices and AHAM's annual energy estimate (v4.0) at 17.2 cents per kWh, EIA's 2025 US residential average. Our arithmetic.
UseFilters, 3 yearsElectricity, 3 yearsRunning cost
24 hours a day (3 filters a year)$540$135about $675
12 hours a day (about 1.5 filters a year)$270$135about $405

Compare that with the Coway AP-1512HH's $59.79 yearly set or the Winix 5510's 12-month filter: the MA-40 costs more to keep running than it does to buy within about a year and a half of round-the-clock use.

Noise, power and controls

Medify lists about 40.5 dBA on its lowest speed and sleep mode, 50.3 dBA on speed 2 and 53.3 dBA on the highest. That low end is the weak spot for bedrooms: it is a steady fan sound, not a near-silent one. Medify rates it at 68 W, and AHAM puts the v4.0's annual energy at 261 kWh with an integrated energy factor of 5.6. It has three fan speeds, a timer up to 8 hours, a child lock and a filter indicator.

The lifetime warranty

Medify advertises a lifetime warranty on its purifiers as long as you register the product and follow the manual. Unlike Alen's Forever Guarantee, the terms Medify describes do not require a filter subscription. Read the current terms on Medify's site before you rely on it.

Who should buy the Medify MA-40

  • Buy it for a living room, classroom or office up to about 380 sq ft where a certified CADR and a lifetime warranty matter more than running cost.
  • Buy it if it runs part of the day, which stretches the filter toward a year and a half per three filters.
  • Skip it for a bedroom where silence matters; its low speed is about 40 dBA.
  • Skip it for 24/7 use on a budget; three filters a year add up.
