The Levoit Classic 200 is a plain ultrasonic cool mist humidifier with a 4-liter tank that Levoit's manual says runs up to 40 hours, at a noise level of 30 dB, for rooms of 285 to 376 square feet, on 24 watts. It suits a bedroom or nursery where you want a long run time and quiet operation, and it has no wick to replace.
The catches are the ones every ultrasonic unit shares: EPA says ultrasonic humidifiers are very efficient at dispersing tap-water minerals into the air as white dust, so you will want distilled or purified water, as Levoit itself recommends. And we found no Classic 200 on Amazon US on November 4, 2026; Levoit still lists it on its own site. If you want to buy on Amazon, the smart Levoit Classic 300S is the closest larger sibling.
How it works
EPA describes ultrasonic humidifiers as creating a cool mist with ultrasonic vibrations. Everything in the water, including dissolved minerals, leaves in that mist. That is why EPA recommends water labeled distilled, noting that distillation is the most effective way to remove minerals, and that spring, artesian or mineral water has not been treated to remove them. Levoit's manual also recommends purified or distilled water instead of tap water to prevent hard water buildup.
The benefit is that there is no wick or filter to buy and the unit is nearly silent, because there is no fan pushing air through a pad.
The specs that matter
A 4-liter tank means fewer refills than a small tabletop unit such as the 1.7-liter Pure Enrichment MistAire. Levoit's 40-hour figure is a maximum on the lowest setting, and the manual notes run time can be longer or shorter depending on the room's temperature and humidity. The 285 to 376 square foot range covers a typical primary bedroom.
| Spec | Figure |
|---|---|
| Water tank | 4 L / 1.05 gal |
| Max run time | Up to 40 hours |
| Noise level | 30 dB |
| Effective range | 24 to 35 m² / 285 to 376 sq ft |
| Rated power | 24 W |

Running cost
At its rated 24 watts, running 10 hours a night for a 150-day season uses 24 x 10 x 150 / 1,000 = 36 kWh, about $6.19 at the EIA's 2025 US average of 17.2 cents per kWh. There is no filter. The ongoing cost is distilled water if your tap water is hard: at full output, a 4-liter tank refilled daily adds up over a winter, which is the real price of choosing ultrasonic.
Humidity control
The Classic 200 does not have the humidity sensor and auto mode of Levoit's smart models, so it keeps misting until you turn it down or the tank runs dry. That makes it easy to over-humidify a small room. EPA advises not humidifying above 50% and recommends 30 to 50% indoors; a cheap hygrometer or an air quality monitor that reads humidity tells you when to lower it. If you want automatic control, the Classic 300S has a humidity sensor and auto mode per its Amazon listing. See the ideal indoor humidity level.
Cleaning
Levoit's manual says to clean the humidifier every 3 days and change the water every day or every other day to avoid bacteria growth, and to deep clean the tank every 2 weeks and before and after storage. Its descaling method uses distilled white vinegar: about a cup (238 mL) in the inner chamber, soaked for an hour. It also allows hydrogen peroxide as a disinfectant and warns never to mix hydrogen peroxide and vinegar. That matches EPA's advice to clean portable units every third day and rinse thoroughly afterward. See humidifier mold prevention.
