The Coway AP-1512HH Mighty is still a sound buy for a bedroom or living room of up to about 360 square feet, mainly because it is cheap to keep running: Coway's yearly filter set is $59.79. Coway rates it at 233 cfm of smoke CADR, and its particle sensor runs a dependable Auto Mode.
Three things have changed since it became the default recommendation. It is no longer listed in the AHAM Verifide directory, so its CADR is Coway's own figure. Its four stages include a bipolar ionizer, which some buyers want to avoid. And Coway now sells the Airmega Mighty2 (AP-1512N), which it calls the next generation of the AP-1512HH. If you want the same machine without the ionizer, the Airmega 200M is the closest match.
What the AP-1512HH is
The Mighty is a compact box with a large round grille on the front. Air enters at the front, passes a washable pre-filter, a deodorization (carbon) filter and a HEPA filter that Coway rates at 99.97% of 0.3 micron particles, and leaves through the top. A fourth stage, which Coway calls a bipolar device, is an ionizer. A particle sensor drives the colored air quality ring and Auto Mode, and Eco Mode switches the fan off after 30 minutes of clean air.
Coway AP-1512HH CADR and the AHAM question
Coway's product page lists 233 cfm for smoke, 246 for dust and 240 for pollen. When we searched the AHAM Verifide directory on November 3, 2026, by brand and by model number, no Coway model was listed. So today the figures are Coway's own and cannot be checked against AHAM's database. They are in line with what AHAM certifies for similar machines, such as the Levoit Core 400S-P at 231 to 234 cfm.
Coway's own coverage figures follow from that CADR: 361 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour, 874 sq ft at 2 and 1,748 sq ft at 1.
| Room | Floor area | Air changes an hour |
|---|---|---|
| Bedroom, 12 x 14 ft | 168 sq ft | 10.4 |
| Main bedroom, 14 x 18 ft | 252 sq ft | 6.9 |
| Coway's room size | 361 sq ft | 4.8 |
| Open plan, 20 x 25 ft | 500 sq ft | 3.5 |
The ionizer: what it is and how to turn it off
The bipolar device charges particles so they clump and are caught more easily. Coway's AP-1512HH is not on the California Air Resources Board's certified list under that model number in the parts we read, although the Mighty C (AP-1512HHC) and the Mighty2 are, and all electronic air cleaners sold in California must stay at or below 0.050 ppm of ozone. If you want no ionizer at all, the simplest answer is the 200M, which uses the same filters without one; if you buy the Mighty, check its manual for how the ionizer is controlled. Our ionizer guide explains the debate.
Noise and running cost
Coway lists 24.4 dB(A) at the lowest setting and 53 dB(A) on high, and 77 W of power. That is more power than the newest Levoit and Winix models of similar CADR, though still modest.
Filters are where the Mighty shines. Coway's filter set holds two deodorization filters (6 months each) and one HEPA filter (1 year) for $59.79, so a year of filters is one purchase.
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Purifier (Coway list price) | $239.99 |
| Filter sets, 3 years | $179.37 |
| Electricity, 3 years | up to $174 |
| Total | about $593 |
Run on Auto in a clean home, the fan spends most of its time on low and Eco Mode, so the power figure is usually far lower.
AP-1512HH vs the Mighty2 and the alternatives
Coway sells the Mighty2 (AP-1512N) as the next generation of the AP-1512HH, and the Mighty2 appears on CARB's certified list. If the price gap is small, it is the newer machine to buy; if the original is discounted, it remains a capable purifier with cheap filters.
| Model | Smoke CADR | Room size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coway AP-1512HH | 233 cfm (Coway) | 361 sq ft (Coway) | Ionizer, $59.79 yearly filters |
| Coway Airmega 200M | Coway does not list one on its page | 361 sq ft (Coway) | Same filters, no ionizer |
| Levoit Core 400S-P | 234 cfm | 363 sq ft | Laser sensor, app, 38 W |
| Winix 5510 | 253 cfm | 392 sq ft | Granular carbon |
Who should buy the Coway AP-1512HH
- Buy it for a bedroom or living room up to about 360 sq ft if low filter cost is your priority.
- Buy it if you want a dependable particle sensor without an app.
- Skip it if you want an AHAM-certified CADR; choose the Levoit Core 400S-P or Winix 5510.
- Skip it if you want no ionizer in the house; the 200M is the same machine without one.
- Skip it for a big open plan space; the Airmega 400 is built for that.
