HPA200 versions listed as mechanical air cleaners

The Honeywell HPA200 is the mid-size version of the HPA300: the same plain box and button controls, two True HEPA R filters instead of three, and an AHAM Verifide smoke CADR of 200 cfm for a 310 square foot room. That makes it a solid choice for a main bedroom, home office or small living room.

Availability is the problem. Honeywell's own store still lists it, but when we checked on November 3, 2026, Amazon US had only HPA200 filters, not new units. If you cannot find it at a fair price, the Honeywell HPA5200B (231 cfm, 360 sq ft, with auto mode) or the HPA300 are the in-stock Honeywell alternatives.

Honeywell HPA200 AHAM figures and room size

The AHAM Verifide directory lists the HPA200 together with the HPA250B, its Bluetooth twin, at 200 cfm for smoke, 190 for dust and 180 for pollen, for a 310 sq ft room. Honeywell describes it as a purifier for large rooms up to 310 sq ft.

Filters and upkeep

The HPA200 takes two True HEPA R filters and one carbon pre-filter A. Honeywell's store recommends replacing the R filters once a year and the pre-filter every three months, and Honeywell's manual for the HPA series treats those intervals as a guide that depends on your air. A two-pack of R filters (HRF-R2) covers a year. The R filter fits the HPA100, HPA200 and HPA300 families, which makes it easy to find.

The pre-filter matters more than its price suggests: it catches lint and pet hair before they reach the HEPA filters, and its carbon takes the edge off household odors. Change it on schedule, or the HEPA filters clog sooner.

Controls, noise and certification

Like the HPA300, the HPA200 has push-button cleaning levels and filter-reminder lights, with no particle sensor and no app; the HPA250B adds Bluetooth control. Honeywell's pages we read do not give decibel or wattage figures. The top setting is noticeably loud in a bedroom, so run it high while you are out and lower overnight.

It is a fan-and-filter purifier with no ionizer, and California's Air Resources Board lists the HPA200 versions as mechanical air cleaners (certification G-22-412).

The HPA5200B is the like-for-like modern Honeywell: AHAM lists it at 231 cfm smoke, 243 dust and 260 pollen for 360 sq ft, with an integrated energy factor of 7.4, and it adds an auto mode. For more airflow at a similar price, the HPA300 is the step up.

Who should buy the Honeywell HPA200

  • Buy it from Honeywell for a bedroom or office up to about 310 sq ft if you want simple controls and widely sold filters.
  • Buy the HPA300 instead if the price gap is small; it covers half as much floor again.
  • Skip it if you want auto mode; the HPA5200B or Levoit Core 400S-P adjust themselves.
